Dr Rahul Chakrabarti is an Australian trained, cataract and refractive surgeon, and comprehensive general ophthalmologist.
His broad research and clinical experience have enabled him to have special interests in a breadth of ophthalmic procedures.
He completed subspecialty fellowships in strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear and Alfred Hospitals before obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He has completed further refractive surgery training at the prestigious London Vision Clinic, and the Zeiss Nethradhama Eye Institute in Bangalore, India.
His interest in sports related eye injury management has led him to being the ophthalmologist for the Adelaide Crows Football Club (in Victoria) and is also the official ophthalmologist for the AFL Doctor’s Association. He treats professional AFL and netball players through the Epworth Hospital East Melbourne, and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Outside of medicine, Rahul is a father of three which keeps him on his toes! He plays acoustic blues guitar, enjoys tennis, table-tennis, cricket, marathon running, and is a 30-year member of the Adelaide Crows Football Club. Having grown up in Whyalla, South Australia he enjoys the outdoors and regional work. He has trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp and enjoys astronomy and astrophotography.
